Placing an international call is always the same three-part sequence. Get the order right and your call connects the first time, from any country.
1. The exit code
Start with your country’s exit prefix — the signal that you are dialing out. In most of the world it is 00; from the United States and Canada it is 011. On a mobile you can simply press +, which works everywhere and saves you memorising each country’s exit code.
2. The country code
Next comes the code of the country you are calling — for example 1 for the United States, 44 for the United Kingdom, 34 for Spain. This is the number this whole site is built to help you find.
3. The local number
Finally, dial the subscriber’s number. Drop the leading zero of the national number when there is one: a London mobile written 07911 123456 becomes +44 7911 123456.
Putting it together
To reach that London number from Spain you would dial 00 44 7911 123456, or just +44 7911 123456 from any mobile. Same logic, every destination.
